Magnificent birds of prey impress residents at Elstow Manor

Hawks, owls and eagles were just some of the amazing birds that Elstow Manor residents visited up close during a recent day trip.

The residents spent the day at Herrings Green Activity Farm and Bird of Prey Centre, where they were able to get up close to the incredible creatures.

The centre in Wilstead, Bedfordshire, is home to one of the largest collections of birds of prey in the UK. It homes owls, hawks, eagles, falcon kites as well as pelicans.

Resident Evelyn Tredget, aged 90, said:

“It was amazing to visit the conservation area and see these incredible birds. They look so wise and very grand indeed.”

The residents visited the farm as part of the Myley trip series of community trips, which are designed to encourage residents to explore the nearby area, including plenty of local trips to places of interest.

Elstow Manor Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coach Oliver Waddington said:

“We’re always getting out and about here at Elstow Manor, and this is the first trip of the year. We were all very impressed with the birds of prey and were very grateful to all the information shared with us by the falconers and other members of the team at the centre.”

After watching an indoor flying display of different birds of prey the residents had worked up a healthy appetite so everyone enjoyed drinks and snacks in the centre café room.
