The wildlife-loving residents have made the cards to adopt an elephant – and have raised £40 in just three days!
One resident at Edwalton Manor painted a wonderful picture of elephants to help raise cash for the appeal.
It means the home can now hand the cash to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) appeal and carry on supporting the charity throughout the seasons.
Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coordinator Alice Kirkby said: “We put the cards out in our reception area, and everyone wants to buy them, so they sold out very quickly.
“We have decided to make more due to the high demand and will be creating them every season with different artwork from the residents.”
African and Asian elephants are threatened, and their populations are fast declining due to poaching and their declining habitat. More than 50 elephants are killed every day for their tusks by poachers as the demand for ivory continues in Asia.
The WWF works across the world with local communities to conserve natural resources. It also works to transform markets and policies towards sustainability and tackles the threats driving the climate crisis, restoring and protecting the local wildlife.
