Talented pianist and Newton House resident Henry Russell was thrilled to reminisce about his music-loving father when the home celebrated World Play Your Ukelele Day. Former church choirmaster Henry, aged 91, was delighted to have the chance to share cherished memories of his dad, who was a talented ukelele player.
World Play Your Ukulele Day is about celebrating the four-stringed instrument and encourages people to strum away as well as to sit back and enjoy the unique sounds. Newton House residents invited members of the Neilston Strings Ukelele Group to come along and entertain them on the musical day.
Henry said: “They are a remarkable group and play in such a way it encourages a real love of the music.”
Newton House Well-being and Lifestyle Coach Kerry-Anne McDade added: “The Neilston Strings are strongly linked to the home with quite a few family connections. It was lovely to see the response they received here, as everyone enjoyed hearing them play. They certainly achieved their goal of spreading positivity, with the music being played promoting joy, peace and tranquillity. It was a truly special event for all of us.”
