Reels and slip jigs hail St Patrick's Day at Edwalton Manor

Talented young dancers hot-footed it into Edwalton Manor Care Home to show off their brilliant Irish dance to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

Edwalton Manor residents couldn’t wait to greet the group from Stanley School of Irish Dancing, Aspley, and watch their traditional routines.

Resident Doris Law, aged 95, said she was delighted to see the group perform in the Landmere Lane care home. She said: “It’s just so lovely to watch the children enjoy their dancing and seeing them so happy, aww aren’t they lovely!”

Home Receptionist Anne Clough added: “It was very nostalgic and reminded me of celebrations we used to have in my hometown.

“My great grandparents are Irish and came from Cote Bridge, which means little island, and my aunt used to teach Irish Dancing.”

The dancers performed a range of traditional dances, including Reel, Slip Jig, and Single Jig.

Ten-year-old dancer Emily Green was thrilled to dance for the residents. She said: “I enjoy Irish dancing because it is a nice sport, and it makes it different to just use your feet. Also, not a lot of people do it.

“Some of the steps are easy, but some of the steps are hard.”

During the St Patrick’s Day celebrations, the children’s parents were also invited to enjoy teas, coffees and cakes whilst the children performed.
