Caring schoolgirl Amelia Gidlow swapped her usual weekend activities to visit her local Cumnor care home to give a helping hand.
The 12-year-old Burford School student spent the day at Chawley Grove, Cumnor Hill, visiting the residents and assisting with chores.
Amelia couldn’t wait to roll up her sleeves and take on the role of ‘Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach’ at the Cumnor Hill home.
The Cheltenham Road school pupil was able to do the home’s newsletter run, make goodie bags for residents and even got a chance to cuddle and clean out the chicks which have been lovingly hatched at the home.
Amelia also presented flowers to residents as a treat.
She said: “My mum absolutely loves receiving flowers for Mother’s Day, so I thought it’d be nice to make sure the residents got flowers too.”
The visit is part of Chawley Grove’s intergenerational activities, which means the residents and local schoolchildren can benefit from learning across the generations. Amelia volunteered her Saturday to spend the day at the home.
Chawley Grove Home Manager Angelika Ziomek said: “Intergenerational relationships are vital in promoting wellbeing amongst our residents.
“Having Amelia here today has really helped us to have a wonderful start to a very special weekend.
“She has assisted with a big smile on her face for the whole day and we are thrilled that she has chosen Chawley Grove to volunteer her time to. Well done, Amelia.”
The home’s Wellbeing Lead, Danielle Hudson, added: “Having Amelia here was fantastic.
“She is a credit to her school and her family. She is wonderful with the residents, and they have really enjoyed speaking to her and asking her about her school, family and friends.
“She is welcome back anytime. In fact, I’m nervous about my position in the company!”
