Newton House Residents have a berry creative time making smoothies

Newton House Residents have a berry creative time making smoothies

Enthusiastic residents at Newton House were keen to get tucked into Nutrition and Hydration Week, especially when it meant getting out the blender and being creative.

The residents were invited to make their own smoothie recipes using a range of ingredients, including mangos, strawberries, raspberries, carrots, beetroot and oranges.

They were certainly left feeling energised and refreshed as they enjoyed their inventive and healthy refreshments.

Resident Betty Pollock, aged 96, couldn’t wait to get mixing and creating her own unique flavour. She said: “It’s wonderful to mix such a variety of fruits and end up with a lovely refreshing drink.”

Smoothies can offer a good mix of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients as well as being full of fibre because they retain the elements of the whole fruit and vegetable which can help make digestion easier.

The Newton House team decided to include the smoothies into Nutrition and Hydration Week as a fun activity designed to introduce healthy habits.

Newton House Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Kerry-Anne McDade said: “We all love smoothies, and they are so easy to make. They are a superb way to introduce good nutrition because they are full of essential nutrients.

“They can boost our energy and keep us energised; our smoothies certainly went down a hit and have helped create some healthy habits.”
