New year gets off to a health start for residents at Alston House

Alston House residents put health on the top of their 2025 agenda with a fantastically fruity well-being event at the home.

The team organised a fantastic ‘Health and Well-being Day’ and got everyone involved in tasting some tempting but healthy refreshments, as well as some physio activities.

They enjoyed a range of refreshing drinks made at the home’s juice bar and attended an NHS-provided session of physiotherapy and vibrotherapy, which helps build body strength.

Resident Alison said: “It was truly wonderful - the vibrotherapy would be a great addition to the home; I think we would all be queueing to use it.”

Fellow resident Maz said: “I really felt the benefits of the vibrotherapy - it felt great on my back. Also, the smoothie I had - the blackberry, strawberry and Greek yoghurt one - was wonderful.”

Enthusiastic resident Val added: “I had four smoothies! I had to try them all. We should do this more regularly, I have had a great time.”

It was a completely new experience for resident Tony, who added: “I felt great after the vibrotherapy. I had never heard of it before. What a marvel!”

For those who wished to participate, the day also included sessions with Ever Active featuring chair exercises and cognitive games.

Ever Active is a community initiative designed to encourage people to get moving.

Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Kelly-Marie Adams said: “We are always keen to try new activities, and the vibrotherapy was amazing and got so many positive comments from our residents, so we would like to do more.

“We know that this kind of therapy improves posture but also builds our body strength.

“The day has inspired everyone to be more active and to think carefully about how we use our bodies and how we can all stay healthy.

“We will continue our sessions and ensure that everyone gets a chance to lead the lives they wish.”

Resident Ruth added: “The smoothies and juices were lovely, I had the walnut and date flavour, it was delicious.”
