Lovestruck Gwen and Bob have all the right moves for Valentines

Lovestruck Gwen and Bob have all the right moves for Valentines

Love keeps glowing for Palmers Green sweethearts who swept each other off their feet nearly 70 years ago at a local dance.

Gwen, aged 79 and Bob Brittain, aged 84, have been married for 59 years, and celebrated Valentines Day by enjoying a special meal at their home in Brookwater House, Oakthorpe Road.

They were also joined by several other happy couples at the home – enjoying a specially cooked meal.

Former typist Gwen said: “From the moment we started dancing, it was as if the rest of the world disappeared. We danced and danced, moving together so naturally, as if we had known each other forever.”

Their romance blossomed and the couple, who have three children, were married at St Albans Church, Edmonton.

Former lighting engineer Bob, and Gwen went on to raise their family in Edmonton where they have always lived.

Today, Bob is happy to provide tips to young couples on how to keep the love alive.

He said: “Keep the love alive with music and never stop dancing, keep the good conversations and understanding each other’s space.”

Gwen added: “Even now, after all these years, Bob can’t stand to be without me. He worries about me constantly, always checking to make sure I’m alright, even in the middle of the night. Bless his heart, he is my darling, the love of my life.

“I’m so grateful that, even in our later years, we’re still side by side. We were lucky enough to find a place for both of us at Brookwater House, where we can continue this beautiful journey together.

“And to think, it all started with one dance.”

The couple enjoyed a gourmet meal at Brookwater House accompanied by an abundance of flowers and chocolate.
