Couple celebrate 75th Valentines with romanic meal in 'Paris'

Lovebirds Ken and Kathleen Wilmhurst were transported to a virtual Paris when they enjoyed their 75th Valentine’s Day with one another at their luxurious home, Chawley Grove.

The couple couldn’t wait to celebrate the occasion as they say the secret of a strong relationship is to keep on smiling.

Ken said: “It’s always been about friendship, having a loving family and keeping the happy memories alive. And, of course, we’re always smiling!”

Residents and their loved ones were transported to Paris thanks to the Chawley Grove Care Home team decorating the luxury venue to the romantic sounds of jazz.

And Home Chef Lloyd Hathaway couldn’t wait to make the occasion extra special – especially as he is marrying his very own sweetheart, Chawley Grove Homemaker Harriet Lyall, later this year.

Lloyd said: “Love is good for the mind and the soul, and we’re very inspired by our wonderful couples here who are certainly keeping romance alive.

“Our residents are a testament to the power of love.”

Also celebrating were couple Karen and Michael Chilton and they also revealed their relationship secrets. They are celebrating their 48th Valentine’s Day together.

Michael said: “You must have trust, patience and independence. I love my wife and am glad to be able to bring her to Paris, if only for the afternoon!”

Fellow couple John and Linda Greenway say their first date made world history.

John said: “We met when we were 14, and our first date was a visit to the cinema. The screening was interrupted with a broadcast announcement that President Kennedy had been shot, a first date we will never forget.”

Chawley Grove Wellbeing Lead Danni Hudson said: “Being able to organise something so beautiful for our residents and their loved ones was a real privilege.

“To be able to share their special day and hear their stories and memories was fantastic.

“Our whole team have really pulled together to make today’s Parisian dining experience, truly unforgettable!”
