Verwood House resident Betty was introduced to the unique taste of Chinese tea when residents welcomed in the Year of the Snake. Everyone at Verwood House joined the celebrations, which included sampling Chinese oolong tea and indulging in fortune cookie treats.
Betty said: "I've never had Chinese tea, but it was pretty good. It's nice to celebrate cultures."
Chinese oolong tea is a semi-fermented tea made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which is black/green in colour. The fortune cookies had everyone curious as they read out messages, including 'it's hard work being fantastic' and 'don't judge a book by its cover.'
Wellbeing Coach Emilia Turner said: "We always like to try new things here at Verwood House, and when we do, it can give us an opportunity to learn about different cultures. "The Year of the Snake is apparently a time of transformation, wisdom and personal growth, so we are certainly looking forward to what is ahead!"
According to Chinese astrology, the snake symbolizes intelligence, mystery, and renewal.
During the celebratory day, residents also enjoyed quizzes, music and even learned how to write their names in Chinese.
