The traditional sounds of the bagpipes delighted residents at Elstow Manor when they celebrated Burns Night.
Special guest and President of Bedford Pipers Richard Galley entertained residents, family friends and the team with his magnificent playing. Richard is hugely skilled and has also served as the band's Quartermaster and Pipe Sergeant.
His expert playing brought back some wonderful memories and anecdotes for some residents and heralded some traditional cheer to the home.
Resident Ruth, aged 94, said: "I thought the piper was very good, and it was interesting to hear the explanation of what he was playing.
"My mother thoroughly enjoyed the pipers when she was young and told me about them playing through Bedford High Street.
"I used to live next to a piper and regularly heard him practice."
Richard provided a selection of famous piping songs and shared his knowledge of Robert Burns and the Bedford Pipers.
He also stopped by to visit resident and proud Scotsman and Rangers fan Duncan, aged 80, playing the pipes in his room.
Resident Julia, aged 87, said she had always seen pipers on TV but not in person and thought it was a great afternoon of traditional live music.
And for fellow resident Esme, aged 90, the afternoon brought back memories of her husband, who served with the Gordan Highlanders in the Second World War.
Burns' Night is when Scots celebrate the life and works of Robert Burns, a poet and lyricist. A traditional Scottish meal of haggis, neeps and tatties is also enjoyed.
