Residents at Edwalton Manor Care Home in Nottinghamshire took a step back in time when they recently visited The Flintham Museum.
The museum, a much-loved part of the local community, was once a village shop that served residents for more than 150 years. The last shopkeeper to live there was Muriel White. Her neighbour, Susan Clayton, has preserved the shop as a museum in her memory.
During the visit, residents learned about the shop’s role in the village’s history and how it continued to support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The museum’s collection of nostalgic items brought back fond memories for many of our residents.
• Barbara Maddocks, aged 90, spotted an old tin labelled “Medicinal Glucose”. She recalled, “I remember when my mother had a tin just like that and I would dip my finger in it and be cheeky to taste it!”
• Eileen Voss, aged 89, said: “Oh, what a lovely day that was! The sun was shining, and the birds were singing. I was talking with Sue about the clothes we used to wear.”
At Edwalton Manor Care Home, we are committed to providing engaging and stimulating activities for all of our residents, including those in residential, nursing, and dementia care.
