Residents were delighted when they were able to get up close to some amazing feathered friends and learn more about owls living in the UK.

The three owls, a Eurasian eagle owl, Zeus, a barn owl called Finley and a tawny owl called Hazel Nuts, visited Chawley as part of Care Home Open Week.

Resident Peter said:

“I have never had the opportunity to be so close to an owl before, and it was a marvellous experience.”

Fellow resident Michael added:

“They were actually very gentle and wide-eyed and interested in everything going on. We learned that there are five types of owls living in the UK, and we were treated to meet three of them.”

The owls were visiting from Al’s Owls and are used as part of an education initiative and to emphasise the importance of wildlife conservation.

Customer Relations Manager Ray Woodill added:

“During Care Home Open Week it was lovely to open our doors to the local community and to have a whole series of activities that were available to the public.

“It was a lovely way of letting people experience life here at Chawley Grove.”
