Verwood Residents Enjoy their Pottery Class

Verwood House residents couldn’t resist the opportunity to get behind the pottery wheel when a brilliant artist visited their home.

Touring potter Maisie is passionate about sharing her craft and was delighted to pass on her enthusiasm to the residents at Verwood House.

Resident Betty said: “It is something I wanted to try, and some people make it look so easy. It is not at all easy, but it is such fun.

“We all enjoyed seeing Maisie and learning a new skill.”

Maisie brought along her pop-up pottery studio, which was set up in the Verwood House bistro area. The residents were carefully guided through how to operate a pottery wheel, hand-building and pottery painting.

The finished pieces have been taken back to Maisie’s studio to be glazed and fired in the kiln.

Verwood House Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Emilia Turner said: “It was amazing and as well as giving everyone a chance to learn a new skill, the day taught us how to create something beautiful with our hands out of such a soft material.”

The residents had chosen their pottery class activity through the home’s ‘wish tree’ where people suggest activities.

Emilia added: “I took it upon myself to make this happen, as I do like to make everyone’s wish come true!

“It was a great activity and a big thank you to Maisie – hopefully, she will come back and do it all again with us.”
