Verwood House residents put their best foot forward

Enthusiastic walkers at Verwood House are determined to explore more of the local area thanks to the launch of their very own walking group.
The residents have set up the group to meet every week and to explore the surrounding area as well as increase their steps.

Resident and keen walker Brenda said: “Walking is a wonderful social activity as well as getting us out and about in the area, and we talk as we walk.”

The group will meet every Friday, and weather permitting, residents will take various routes, including Verwood town and visiting local shops.

Verwood House Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Emilia Turner said she couldn’t wait to walk alongside the residents as they explored the area.

She added: “Walking is a great way to keep fit and we can do it at our own pace, it’s not a marathon! Going for a walk with one or more friends is a form of socialising, which is essential for good health. The group will help increase our step count, which is a very positive way to start the new year.”

Evidence shows that people who take part in social walking groups experience significant improvements in lung strength, blood pressure, body fat, resting heart rate, body mass index, and other important measures of overall health and fitness.
