Delighted residents at Chawley Grove Care Home were thrilled when talented schoolgirl Amelia popped by to run an amazing seasonal baking session.

Local schoolgirl Amelia, aged 12, was keen to show residents how to bake some spooky cupcakes as part of Chawley Grove’s week-long Halloween celebration.

Chawley Grove resident and former cookery teacher Jennifer, said: “How marvellous, we had such fun and I am very happy to have met Amelia, and I think she is going to be such a fantastic chef when she is grown up.”

Fellow resident Chris added: “What a lovely treat for us to have Amelia come and teach us how to bake, she can definitely come back!”

Amelia is a keen baker and is always experimenting with new recipes. Once the cupcakes were baked, they were handed to the nurses and Chawley Grove Homemakers to say a big ‘thank you’ to the work they do caring for residents.

Amelia said:  “ I’ve loved spending time with the wonderful residents. We have made them laugh and they have been happy. I am looking forward to coming back and teaching everyone how to make a gingerbread house at Christmas.”

Chawley Grove Wellbeing Lead Danni Hudson said: “Amelia was so enthusiastic and the Halloween cupcakes were a great idea. She has certainly inspired us.

“She is a very skilled baker as well as being very patient, we are delighted she joined us and hope she comes back again soon.”

The activity was part of a whole series of Halloween events at Chawley Grove which included a party and special exercise classes. A visit from Zoolab who brought along a frog, scorpion and tarantula also created quite a Halloween stir.

Danni added: “Halloween at Chawley Grove is a big chance for us to have some fun, have a party and treat ourselves.

“It’s been wonderful to see everyone get involved and hear the laughter.”
