A special visit from members of the Royal Navy brought back boatloads of memories for residents at Newton House, especially those with a family connection to the service.Commander and Senior Naval Officer, Philip Burgess, visited the home along with five young sailors from HMS Glasgow who were keen to talk about their future careers.
And everyone was especially delighted when Commander Burgess presented residents at Newton House with a picture of HMS Glasgow, now proudly displayed in the home's café.
Newton House resident Nancy said: "I found it very interesting as my husband and all of his family worked in the shipyards in Govan (Fairfield Shipyard). The sailors knew all about the history of this, so it was lovely to take time to chat to them about it."
Fellow resident Robin said: "They were absolutely incredible and looked outstanding in their uniforms.
"I got so flustered when I first met them, but as I got speaking to them about the Faslane Navy Base and my knowledge of all the ships and seaplanes, I really enjoyed it."
Well-being and Lifestyle Coach Kerry-Anne McDade said: "We had a beautiful afternoon tea with the naval officers chatting to our residents, staff, and visitors about their work in the navy.
"It was amazing as many of our residents have a connection with the Royal Navy, so it gave people a chance to reminisce about their sailing history, either their own Naval careers or that of their family.
"We all love the wonderful picture they presented to us, which now sits in pride of place in the cafe.
"The day sailed by and the residents will all remember it for a long time."
