Nottingham Care Home Goes Pink For Charity

Everything turned pink at an Edwalton care home when residents invited friends and family to help them raise cash and awareness for a breast cancer charity.

Residents and staff at Edwalton Manor Care Home were fundraising for research and support coordinated by Breast Cancer Now during the ‘Wear it Pink Day’.

The charity campaign encourages people to raise cash by wearing pink, although residents and the team at the Landmere Road home went over and above – baking pink cakes, running a pink tombola, and even blowing pink bubbles!

Resident Pam Cave, aged 95, said: “It’s been delightful, and I never knew pink icing could taste so good!

“I am so glad we managed to raise the money for such a crucial charity which funds vital research.”

As well as specialist nurses and funding research, the charity raises awareness through campaigns to lobby for the best possible treatment, services and care for those affected by breast cancer.

Edwalton Manor Well-being and Lifestyle Coach Assistant Izzy Thompson said: “It was wonderful to see everyone come together to celebrate and raise awareness.

“Breast cancer impacts so many lives, and thanks to research, we hope that one day everyone with breast cancer can be certain of a healthy future.”

Breast Cancer Now runs the ‘Wear it Pink Day’ during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The campaign has been running for more than 20 years and this is the second year residents at Edwalton Manor – who raised £60 - have supported the initiative.
