Newton House’s Music Loving Residents Get A Taste Of Festival Joy

Music-loving residents at Newton House Care Home couldn’t believe their luck when they got the run of a famous Glasgow music shop – proving it’s never too late to learn new skills.

Inspired by the Scottish music festival TRNSMT, which is coming up on July 12, the residents tried their hand at a number of instruments, from guitar and keyboard to the drums.

The residents visited Glasgow’s GuitarGuitar store where staff showed them how to enjoy playing instruments.

Now more than ever, they cannot wait to hear how famous musicians, including Rick Astley, Liam Gallagher and Calvin Harris, perform at the event in Glasgow.

At the music store, former DJ and resident Eric was most interested in playing and listening to dance music.

He said,

“I really enjoyed it. They had a great DJ system, and playing it brought back so many memories of when I used to DJ.”

And resident and keen musician Roddie, who played the guitar years ago, loved the opportunity to have the chance to do it again.

Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Kerry-Anne McDade:

“Our residents had so much fun and appreciated the opportunity to express their creativity.

“The staff were wonderful and very patient, we made quite a noise.”

During their visit, the residents also got to show off their dance floor skills, especially when Roddie took to the guitar.

Kerry-Anne added:

“Music is such a wonderful way to improve our physical as well as mental wellbeing.

“It also helps reduce anxiety and stress and visiting GuitarGuitar certainly put us all in a good mood.”
