Residents at Alston House were just as keen as sharing their memories as well as making new ones when they met for their latest Gentlemen’s Club session.

The group spent an afternoon in the Alston House luxurious cinema watching Steven Spielberg’s Band of Brothers based on the story of World War II. It details the experiences of the real-life Easy Company, soldiers who fought on the frontlines during the war.

Resident Cyril Heal, aged 93, said: “For me it brought back memories of when my home was bombed during the war and my grandmother and me had to take shelter in our Anderson in our garden.”

After the film the group spent time in Churchills Club in Eastleigh – a private members social venue.

Resident Peter Bell, aged 83, said: “It was wonderful to have a proper beer, which is a real treat.”

The gents were able to have a good reminisce and remember their days when some of them were members of their local social clubs.

Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Kelly-Marie Adams said: “It was a wonderful day to see just how our memories can be triggered.

“It is important for people to feel valued and part of a community and be able to do small things like visit social clubs. The staff at Churchills made our residents feel welcome, and the residents expressed that they will definitely be regulars!”
