Artistic residents at Upton Manor Care home got creative when the sun came out and set up an art table in their garden.
The residents were joined by local artist Johanna Kennedy Wall who specialises in murals and animal portraits.
Johanna encouraged the Upton residents to focus on painting sunflowers using a splendid array of watercolours.
Resident Pamela Lester, aged 86, and Irene Ellis, aged 93, are already talented artists who loved spending the afternoon in the pretty garden. They will be putting their work forward for the local Horticulture Show on August 17. The event, organised by Upton in Bloom, attracts large numbers of entries from across the area.

“Painting can be so relaxing, and it’s lovely to sit in the garden and enjoy an activity with friends. Sunflowers are so vibrant and cheer everyone up, and it’s a real challenge to capture their brilliance in paint.”
Fellow resident Heather Wyatt, aged 81, will also enter work for the Horticultural Show. She will display a beautiful cross-stitch map of Dorset that she created.
Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Amy Morrison said:
“We have such a lovely group of very artistic residents here at Upton Manor, so the art sessions are very popular.
“We decided to take the art session outside because the weather was wonderful. It was lovely to sit in our beautiful garden and have a professional artist give us tips and guidance.”
Johanna visits Upton Manor every month and has proved a huge hit with residents.
