Big-hearted residents at a Cambridge care home held a very special harvest festival in support of a local homeless charity.

Residents and families at Cambridge Grove Care Home on Cambridge Road have been collecting the food goods over the last month. They were delighted they could hand them over to Jimmy’s Cambridge - a community-based charity providing support and housing to people sleeping rough – at a very special Harvest Festival event at their home.

Jimmy’s Night Shelter staff member Margaret said: “We are honoured to have all this wonderful food donated to us. Thank you so much. It will really help us support the people of Cambridge who are less fortunate.”

Cambridge Grove resident Chris Points, aged 77, said: “It was a wonderful, traditional service. I very much enjoyed it.”

Fellow resident Barbara Cannon, aged 93, said: “It was great to sing some hymns together. There was so much food for the service. It was lovely.”

Jimmy’s Cambridge is currently running a harvest appeal, with donations being used to support the emergency accommodation at Jimmy’s East Road and for residents currently in transition.

Last year, donations helped provide 40,000 meals locally.

Cambridge Grove Home Ambassador Amy Milburn said: “I hope we have helped make a difference to people who may be struggling at this time.

“Our local community is important to all of us here at Cambridge Grove, and we thank Margaret and all the other volunteers for their work.”
