Flourishing Friendships At Richmond Bring Generations Together

New friendships are blooming at Richmond Manor Care Home thanks to a little help from a charity.

Richmond resident Sylvia has made firm friends with local resident Fiona Macleon and her beautiful daughter Nina, thanks to a charity called Friends for Life Bedfordshire.

Sylvia said: “It is truly wonderful to have Fiona and Nina visit, they are so lovely and really cheer me up.

“My own family are so far away, it’s not easy to see them. The Friendship for Life is such a great idea.”

Richmond's Wellbeing Coach Clare Cook said: "We have such a busy home here at Richmond which is always buzzing with activity.

“Although we are always happy to welcome guests, some of our residents have families all over the world and it’s not always easy to visit although there may be lots of phone calls.

“But we love to have people walk through our doors and come in for a cup of tea. So, it is lovely to see that Sylvia, Fiona and Nina have bonded so well.”

Friends for Life is a charity providing a befriending service to people in Bedford’s care homes.

Founded in 2007, it has around 70 volunteers and supports 30 care homes.

The idea is that volunteers offer friendship and company to care home residents who have few or no family or friends to visit.

The charity is always looking to recruit more volunteers to become befrienders so it can offer more group wellbeing activities to residents across the area.
