It was all fun and games when keen boules players met at Edwalton Manor Care Home for the latest local games tournament.
The Edwalton Manor Boules Team were joined by players from across other local care home for the fourth Quarterly Inter-home Boules Tournament.
Although the home team didn’t come away with the winning trophy, everyone had a spectacular day of healthy competition.
Edwalton Manor Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coordinator Alice Kirkby launched the tournament earlier this year when she realised residents had a talent for the game and displayed some expert shots.
Alice said: “We try not to be too competitive here at Edwalton, but when we’re playing other homes, we certainly put on our best show.
“We’re all super keen and play very regularly here, and of course the tournament keeps us all on our toes.”
The Edwalton team is coached by Coach Ross King who also runs exercise classes alongside the boules practice with residents.
Resident Sheila Baker said: “Boules is such a lovely way to make friends and is a super way to keep fit. The tournament also brings local home teams together and it’s interesting to meet the other players.”
The home held its first inter home boules tournament at the start of this year and there were 15 players from across four care homes for the latest event including Edwalton.
Alice added: “There’s always a lot of banter and it’s as much a social event as it is for the sport.
“Also, because it is indoor carpet boules, we can do it in all weathers. Of course, with the tournament being held at Edwalton it means we also have a slight competitive advantage!”
After the event, the players enjoyed delicious jacket potatoes and cakes for lunch. While team members waited for their boules round, they also completed cross words, quizzes and made chocolate lollypops.
