Songs from the heart could be heard for miles around when people gathered at a Charlton Hayes care home for a Singing to Remember event.

The dementia friendly event at Lovell Place Care Home, on Sparrowbill Way, Patchway, has been hailed such a success it is now going to become a monthly event at the home.

Vicky Bremner, who has 14 years’ experience running events supporting the Alzheimer’s Society and independently, joined Lovell Place for a relaxed fun singing session featuring a variety of well-known songs to bring back memories and some exercises to stimulate the mind, body and soul.

Lovell Place resident Joan Probert said: “It was lovely to see everyone singing and I loved my tambourine.”

Guest Eric Moss joined the event with two of his friends. He said: “Such a wonderful afternoon and it is great to see the community being invited to such a wonderful event, can you please put our names down for the next event in October.”

Customer Relations Manager, Sarah Jacka, said: “Music has a wonderful way of stimulating memory as well as conversation. Thank you to Vicky for bringing this alive.

“Although it was a chance to hit the high notes, it was a wonderful social occasion, and we cannot wait to do it all over again.

“It’s been such a success and so many guests, as well as residents have asked for a repeat session.”

During the afternoon guests had the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary high tea carefully prepared by Home Chef, Jennifer Eyles.

Sarah added: “There are so many challenges living with dementia as well as caring for someone can present. However, we know that by sharing experiences and bringing people together, we can make a huge difference.”

The next Singing to Remember will be on October 10th and will be open to those in the community living with dementia as well as their carers and a complimentary high tea will be available.
