Big laughs, big hair, neon colours, and spandex got everyone raving when residents and staff at Cofton Park Manor stepped back a few decades to celebrate the 1980s.
The Cofton Park team couldn’t wait to put on their fishnets, leggings, and electric colours and play hits by Madonna, Duran Duran, and Rod Stewart.
Resident Iris Bessent said,
“In the 1980s, I was a full-time housewife and mother and remember enjoying a dance at our local Longbridge Social Club on a Saturday night.”
Local singer Debbie Miles entertained residents on the day with her amazing voice, singing hits from the '80s, including Material Girl, Purple Rain, and We Are Sailing.
Resident Graham Phillips, aged 85, pictured with a red wig and ghetto blaster, said he remembers the eighties well, and the day brought back happy memories.
He remembers being in the Rubery Social Club in the eighties, and the day brought back happy memories.
Cofton Park Manor Community Relations Lead Wendy Sibley said:
“The residents wanted an 80s-themed party, so we just had to do it.
“It’s a super decade to celebrate as it is so full of colour, and everything was exaggerated. It was a decade of abundance and optimism – and this curtained rubbed off on all of us on the day.”
