Jazz singer Mickey Fordola thrilled residents at Cambridge Grove Care Home when he performed modern classics during Care Home Open Week.
Care Home Open Week is an annual event dedicated to showcasing the care as well as the vibrant communities provided by care homes across the country.
At Cambridge Grove, residents and staff invited family and friends to enjoy a cheese and wine hour and attend their giant garden party, which lasted all afternoon on a super-hot day.
Resident Alan Overton, aged 87, who recently moved into Cambridge Grove with his wife 88-year-old wife June, loved the cheese and wine event. He said:
“This is lovely - such a treat. We are both very lucky to be living here now.”
The garden party followed the cheese and wine hour and saw the home chef serve up a range of BBQ food as well as plenty of salad and coleslaw homemade cupcakes.
During the garden party, local singer Rachel Hill performed a variety of songs for the entire two hours, and everyone had a fabulous afternoon.
The afternoon certainly proved a hit with family member Julie Key. She said:
“Well done everyone. This was such a wonderful event, what a lovely time to bond with people.”
And relative Liz Edwards added:
“What a fantastic afternoon, well done to everyone involved.”
Ninety-five-year-old resident Sue Bartlet added:
“It was a lovely afternoon, and the singer was brilliant.”
Wellbeing Coach Amy Milburn said:
“We have a lovely growing community here at Cambridge Grove, and our home is full of warmth and laughter.
“It is wonderful to be able to showcase this and demonstrate all of the things that can be enjoyed and achieved in our later lives.
“It’s been a busy Open Week, and both the cheese and wine hour and garden party proved a huge success.”
Jazz and swing singer Mickey Fordola was a big hit with residents with his fresh take on some modern classics.
Amy added:
“We had a variety of cheeses to try, including stilton, cheddar, mozzarella and feta with crackers, celery and grapes.
“Everyone enjoyed a glass of red or white wine whilst listening to Mickey sing some songs everyone knew. It was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.”
Due to popular demand, Cambridge Grove now celebrates a cheese and wine event every month.
