Care staff at Upton Manor orchestrated a spectacular Proms event in the home’s stunning gardens as residents and visitors enjoyed an enchanting afternoon of music.
Opera singer Chess Taylor wowed the crowds with her stunning performance at the ‘Proms in the Garden’ event which raised money for Julia’s House, a local children’s hospice.
Upton Manor resident Heidi Walker said: “It was so wonderful to be able to listen to live opera. I really did not think I would get the opportunity to see something like this again - Chess had the voice of an angel.”
Guests gave donations for the afternoon’s entertainment, which included a picnic lunch and a glass of bubbly and raised around £250 for the children’s hospice.
Chess performed a two-hour set with traditional operatic songs mixed with some more modern music flavoured with a classical twist. Her finale ‘Jerusalem’ and ‘Rule Britannia’ proved a huge hit with the enthralled audience.
Customer Relations Manager Donna Milne-Barron had organised a raffle, which was drawn during the interval, along with a speech from Julia’s House representative Amanda Gillett.
Donna said: “Everyone at Upton Manor would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended and the home team who helped out - it was a truly magical afternoon raising money for a very worthy cause.”
Guest and family member Mel Ayres said: “Thank you to everyone at Upton Manor. Mum and I have had the most amazing afternoon.
“Chess is such a talented singer - she gave me goosebumps. Being out in the garden with everyone listening to those beautiful songs was quite emotional, and I saw a few tears shed.”
Upton Manor Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Amy Morrison said: “The sun was shining, and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, with guests from our community joining our residents, families (past and present), and staff.
“We cannot wait for Chess to return for her Christmas concert here at Upton Manor.”
