BIG-HEARTED residents at a Cambridge care home have handed over a bumper donation of toys to the Salvation Army festive toy appeal for families in need.
The residents at Cambridge Grove Care Home, Cambridge Road, have spent the last month collecting the beautiful toys for the Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal and are determined that no child should go without.
Resident Pauline Grant, aged 89, said: “Christmas is largely about the children, and we could not bear to think that some youngsters will go without this year.
“It can be a very hard time for many people, and this is exaggerated at Christmas when there is so much extra pressure put on families.
“We hope our gifts bring some joy and smiles.”
The Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal calls on the community to donate new toys to support families struggling to make ends meet over the festive season.
The team at Cambridge Grove handed their collection of toys over to Ozlem Southon and Stephanie Hall at the Salvation Army.
Ozlem said: “Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Cambridge Grove toy appeal. Many families are facing a grim Christmas, and this appeal will go a long way to ensuring no child goes without and easing some of the pressure from their families.”
Cambridge Grove Home Ambassador Amy Milburn said: “It’s very important to everyone at Cambridge Grove that we can support our community where it’s needed most.
“The Salvation Army does incredible work identifying the people who will benefit, and we hope our donations will light up Christmas for many local children.”
Every year, the Salvation Army churches ask people to donate new toys and gifts for children and people. The toys will be distributed by local Salvation Army church or centre members.
