Everyone likes to feel appreciated, and during Nurses’ Day, staff and residents at Elstow Manor couldn’t wait to say a big ‘thank you’ to their dedicated nursing team.

The day, designed to celebrate and promote the crucial role nurses play, saw the Elstow nurses completely spoilt. The brilliant nurses were presented with an amazing gift bag and enjoyed refreshments during the presentation event.

Clinical Lead Kirstie Matthews said:

“We didn’t expect this at all. We all love our jobs, and every day, I certainly get a great deal of satisfaction from caring for others and ensuring people get the very best of care.”

Colleague Ellie Winzar added:

“Nursing is a highly skilled profession and it’s always a privilege to care for others, ensuring people are able to have the best lives they can at any age.”

Emma-Jane Bvukumbwe made a heart-warming thank you speech.

She told the residents:

“On behalf of all nurses, we are thankful for all the appreciation and to say thank you to all residents for making all our days so pleasurable, and you are all so lovely.”

During the event, recently qualified OSKE nurses were also given a congratulations package. These are nurses transferring their crucial skills from their home countries to the UK.

Elstow Manor Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coach Oliver Waddington said:

“Every day, our nurses demonstrate dedication and are committed to offering the very best care they can.

“They certainly deserve a big thanks and lots of recognition for all they do.”

During the day, the home also took the opportunity to surprise former nurses and residents Jean Harlow and Patricia Marco with gifts. They were handed appreciation gift bags for their years of service to the nursing profession.

Resident Jean, who worked as a local nurse in Bedford, said:

“I was totally surprised to be sat at the same table as the nurses at Elstow Manor.

“I was blown away by getting my own personalised gift bag of goodies, and I am so grateful for this and for being appreciated for my work as a nurse.

“We are delighted that in one afternoon, we could say thank you and give them a chance to feel appreciated. And, of course, we say thank you every day.”
