The home invited the specialised dementia bus to visit their site, and local people were able to book an appointment also.
Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Lidia Nikolova Gjorgjieva said: “It was an amazing opportunity for all the team members to experience how it feels to live with dementia.
“The event was open for the community as well, and we are pleased that we had a very good response.”
Technology on board the bus provides people with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like, allowing them to enter the world of the person living with dementia.
This is really helpful for carers because it enables them to understand which simple changes need to be made to their environment to really improve the lives of people with dementia.
The Alston team were able to experience a series of tasks wearing a pair of sunglasses, headphones and multiple-layered gloves.
The innovative bus from Experience Training Ltd was parked up at the Alston House car park for the day.
Lidia added: “This activity provided us with such a valuable tool to help us understand further what some of our residents may be experiencing.
“Ultimately, it will help us communicate better with someone who is living with dementia.
“This was also another great opportunity for us to invite the local community to Alston and share our learning and experiences.”
