A busy group of Abbots Wood Manor residents didn’t miss the chance to get out into the garden during the warm sunshine and pick their wonderful crop of juicy ripe strawberries.
Regional Community Relations Lead Richard Hollands said: “It’s taken a while, but we finally have some lovely sunny weather, and it’s lovely to be outside in the garden.
“We have an amazing garden here at Abbots Wood Manor, and we have been looking forward to tasting the strawberries which have grown very well this year.
“Our residents have had a wonderful weekend being out in the warm summer sunshine and enjoying what many did as a child, picking strawberries.”
June is the prime time for strawberries, and the wetter weather has worked well for this year’s popular fruit.
The berries must be picked when they are fully ripe, as once picked, unlike other fruit, strawberries do not continue to ripen.
Richard added: “June is the month of tennis, strawberries and cream, and at Abbots Wood Manor, we will be enjoying them all.”
