Spectacular festive lights bring joy to Oxford community

A team from Chawley Grove Care Home were at the event, along with local dignitaries, to celebrate the switching on of the illuminations.

Martin’s amazing annual display of illuminations at his home can be seen for miles around and includes a Santa, reindeer and sleigh.

This year he is hoping it will help raise more cash than ever for Sobell House, which provides specialist palliative care and support to adult patients, their family, friends and carers as well as Oxfordshire Hospitals Charity.

Chawley Grove Regional Community Relations Lead Mark Laundy-McInnes said: “It’s wonderful that Martin does this for the community and uses it to raise such vital funds, whilst bringing enormous joy to so many people.”

Chawley Grove Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Megan Wilson was hugely impressed by the thousands of lightbulbs and incredible sleigh display.

She said: “It is wonderful to be able to celebrate with the community and we are very much part of a thriving community here at Chawley Grove and we are happy to support this event.”

And this year residents and staff at Chawley Grove Care Home, Cumnor Hill, will be supporting the staff at Sobell House Hospice by giving them each a present.

Mark added: “The staff are incredible, and they do such valuable work, so we thought it would be a nice gesture to say thank you with a festive gift.”
