There’s nothing quite like being in the outdoors for residents at the home who have created a fantastic allotment of their own.

And now they just need to play the waiting game before they can enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach, Gemma Crow, said: “Gardening here at Meryton has been such a wonderful activity for our residents.

“I can’t wait to see the joy that will inevitably come when we get to eat our first crop of tomatoes, beans, peas, courgettes, onions and even Brussel sprouts!”

Resident Bob has taken a particular interest in tending the garden, having always grown vegetables previously.

Gemma added: “It can be very relaxing in the garden; it gives us a real sense of peace.”

And for resident John, that peace has helped inspire his creative writing, also triggered by the great outdoors and memories of numerous countryside rambles with his wife.

In his writing John refers to the outdoors as his ‘church’ with everything contributing and instead of grey walls, he sees rows upon rows of hedgerows as well as wildflowers which he
writes about.

John said: “We were members of the Rambling Club and would walk for miles at the weekends, taking inspiration which would gear us up for the week ahead at work.

“Today my writing is a great joy to me and certainly brings back memories. Being in the garden can be very soothing and inspirational at the same time.”
