The creative intergenerational project, called Acorns & Oaks, has been spearheaded by Chawley Grove Care Home and local charity Botley Bridges.
The initiative for local families held its first ever gathering at the Cumnor Hill care home and it has been hailed a huge success. Residents took the opportunity to look at some old-time favourite toys which proved a hit with the children.
Regional Community Relations Lead Mark Laundy-McInnes said: “It is very important for all of us that we build relationships and challenge the perceptions we may have of one another.
“And by working across the generations, everyone has something to learn. The children also bring great joy and energy to the home which everyone loves.
“The residents enjoyed showing the children toys and games and were very patient with the children. Also, the children learn from the wonderful stories they are told and the praise they receive from the residents.
“We would like to thank everyone at Botley Bridges for coming in such good spirits and enjoying our lovely home here at Chawley Grove.”
The new group is set to meet fortnightly at Chawley Grove Care Home and activities will include arts and crafts sessions.
Botley Bridges is a registered charitable company, based in Botley, Oxford and serves the surrounding area including Cumnor, North Hinksey and West Oxford.
The charity provides services for children up to the age of 11 and their families at the site of the former Elm’s Road Children’s Centre.
