Not only are bowls great for our physical health, but it’s a perfect way to meet and make friends.
Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach at Newton House, Kerri MacNeil, said bowls offers many health benefits for us all.
“It’s especially good exercise for us as we get older. It’s a low-impact, therapeutic exercise.
“It increases the bowler's endurance, speeds up the bowler's metabolism, and helps the bowler maintain bone density. It’s also helpful for our coordination and confidence.
“In fact, depending on the game, you can actually end up walking miles without even realising it.”
Newton House residents are looking forward to a summer of fine bowling weather, and they might even get involved in a little competition.
Kerri added: “It’s a very relaxing and pleasurable activity, but it can get competitive!
“It’s a very social activity whilst offering a whole-body exercise.
“It’s so enjoyable, and we are so lucky here at Newton to have our own green.”
