There’s nothing like a bit of singing to express our feelings so the group have decided to attend the Singing Together choir, which is a local Huntingdon choir and enjoyed by people living with dementia and their families.

Montague House Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Gabrielle Butler said: “Singing provides us with so many benefits.

“Not only does it lift the spirits, but it helps build our immunity and provides an incredible workout for the mind and brain as well as the lungs.”

Research has shown that listening to music or taking part in a musical activity like singing can help people with dementia develop and maintain relationships with others and improve wellbeing.

Gabrielle added: “The choir is an activity that helps bring us all together as a group, we do end up chatting and laughing and it also gets us talking about our memories.

“It has proved so beneficial. Whatever the challenges we may be facing, music and the choir has lifted our spirits. The choir has become a very regular feature for us here at Montague House.”

The choir is based at the local Brampton community centre and is run by Kate Cooke who is also a local high school teacher.
