A centrepiece on Plymouth's Hoe, Smeaton's Tower has become one of the South West's most well-known landmarks and can be seen in lovely pictures taken on the day residents visited.
Ernstell House Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Rachel Stephenson said: “It was a lovely day, and we all enjoyed the most delicious ice cream.
“It’s healthy for us to get out and about and enjoy the landmarks we have on our doorstep, especially here at Plymouth’s Hoe.
“Many of the residents have visited the Hoe several times, and the trip brought back some lovely memories.”
The lighthouse was originally built on the Eddystone reef in 1759, costing £40,000 but was taken down in the early 1880s when it was discovered that the sea was undermining the rock it was standing on. Around two-thirds of the structure was moved stone by stone to its current resting place on the Hoe.
At 72 feet high, Smeaton's Tower offers amazing views of Plymouth Sound and the city from its lantern room.
However, Ernstell House residents preferred to keep their feet firmly on the ground for their visit, enjoying their ice cream treats.
