Residents and staff at Alston House Care Home invited the charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People to their home so they could learn more about the amazing pups.

The charity is famously known for training dogs to alert deaf people to important and lifesaving sounds they might otherwise miss. And being aware of these sounds can save lives.

Alston House Regional Community Relations Lead Mark Laundy-McInnes said it was a huge privilege to welcome the charity to the home.

He said: “It was amazing to hear about how the dogs impact lives. Deafness can be so isolating the dogs help people reconnect with the world by providing love and companionship.

“It was wonderful to have so many lovely dogs here, and they were all so beautifully behaved.”

The dogs, alongside volunteers, spent the afternoon chatting with residents and staff at Alston House. The care home served up a delicious tea for the volunteer guests we well as a few special treats for the cute pooches.

The charity has matched thousands of dogs with deaf people since it launched in 1982 and currently has more than 1,100 working hearing partnerships across the UK.
