The all-day event saw four guest teams from the local care homes meet at Edwalton Manor for a spot of healthy competition.
Teams of six, including those from nearby Coppice Lodge, Rivendell View, Willow Brook and Hall Park, all took part.
Edwalton Manor resident and boules team member Jeff Singleton, aged 86, said: “It was a fantastic day filled with so much laughter. It was lovely to meet new people from all the different homes, and I can’t wait to take part in the next event.”
The competition included the qualifying stages in the morning and the finals in the afternoon. During the day, local artist Richard Ellis enjoyed studying and then drawing the residents’ faces, and at the end of the day, the pictures were handed to each team.
Medals were also handed out to all players, with individual prizes for first to third place including £50 and £25 vouchers and a hamper.
Edwalton Manor resident Margaret George, aged 86, enjoys boules and said she loved the competitions on the day.
She said: “The bistro came to life with a vibrant atmosphere as soon as our guests arrived. It was a delightful experience making new friends and witnessing an abundance of competitive spirit.”
Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coordinator Alice Kirkby said: “We were lucky enough to have fantastic caricaturist Richard here on the day who created amazing team drawings.
“Our kitchen put on a spectacular buffet which blew our visitors away, we are so delighted to have hosted the boules event.”
The Edwalton team enjoys regular games of boules, and this year they have been practising the event, ensuring the boules are correctly thrown from within the starting circle.
