EVERYONE LOVES A GOOD COFFEE AND CHAT AT CADDINGTON

In fact, research shows that we’re all healthier and happier when we’re talking and communicating with one another.

So, when staff at Caddington Grove Care Home saw residents Iris and Barbera having a good old chat, they wanted to capture the moment on camera.

Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach Andy Matthews said: “Forming friendships and social communication is one of the most important and pleasurable aspects of our daily lives.

“It was lovely to see Iris and Barbera deep in conversation during a coffee morning the other day, and we asked if we could capture this special moment.

“It was a special moment because Barbera and Iris discovered they were both evacuated to Wales during the Second World War, so they were able to share memories about their childhood.

“As the chat continued into post-war memories and beyond, Iris revealed that she became a teacher, and Barbera pursued a career as a model.

“A good chat about anything, everything or nothing important is so beneficial for our well-being.”

As well as making us happier, a good conversation with friends can lower rates of chronic illness and mean less anxiety and depression, as well as improved mobility and cognitive health.

Andy added: “Most of us don’t need an excuse to sit down over a coffee and get chatting, although sometimes it’s also nice to be alone too and have our own space.

“Whatever people choose, it is always a goal of mine to ensure that all residents are happy, engaged and socially active at Caddington Grove.

“And making those important connections in person is hugely beneficial.”
