The Higgins Bedford unites on one site three previous cultural venues: Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, Bedford Museum and Bedford Gallery.
The buildings date back 200 years and have been used for various activities over the years. The site marks its tenth anniversary after it re-opened and was refurbished, uniting the museums.
Eight residents visited the site to explore more about the area's history and also to see some rarely exhibited artefacts.
Residents Tony Crossley aged 95, and Wilf Hulland, aged 93, found it eye-opening to read about the different exhibits and were keen to explore more.
Fellow resident Linda Garner, aged 90, said that she was impressed with the exhibits and was so grateful for Alan, homemaker, for reading and helping with the interactive displays around the museum.
Elstow Manor Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coach Oliver Waddington said: “It was an amazing opportunity for our residents to get the introductory talk about the different exhibits from Lydia Saul and was great to see our residents and staff enjoying the day out exploring the rich history of Bedford and Higgins family as well as museum and art gallery, many of the residents want to come back to explore more.”
The event is part of a series of community trips which are designed to encourage residents to explore the local area, including plenty of local trips to places of interest.
