The afternoon visit inspired the group who were delighted with their trip to the venue which is located at the University of Nottingham’s University Park Campus.

It is one of the largest University-based arts centres in the UK.

The Edwalton Manor residents spent time wandering around The Djanogly Gallery which shows largely twentieth-century and contemporary art exhibitions by British and international artists.

The current exhibition is Rhythm & Geometry celebrating abstract and constructed art made and exhibited in Britain since 1951.

Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coordinator Alice Kirkby said: “This was a stunning selection of sculpture, reliefs, mobiles, paintings, drawings and prints, celebrating the dynamic abstract and constructed art made in Britain since 1951.

“We were all fascinated by seeing the artwork and left many residents discussing their views on what art is to them.”

The group also got to see Plants and Prayers, an exhibition exploring medicine, care, and healing before 1700 and some of the changes that led to the development of medicine as we know it today.

Resident Dorothy was especially impressed by the manuscripts from the 1700s. She said: “I was fascinated by the lettering and to see how beautiful it is, I used to be a calligrapher.”

The exhibition also included a room full of plants and wildlife made from materials such as felts and velvet which offered a tactile experience.

Resident Barbara said: “It’s lovely to see the art around us and be able to touch it.”

However, after a wonderful day of wandering around the galleries, residents couldn’t wait to enjoy a pit stop at the café before heading home.

Resident Valarie exclaimed: “It’s not the sort of thing I would normally do, but I thoroughly enjoyed it more than I thought I would.”
