Alston House has perfect Christmas countdown with children

It was quite a thrill when more than 50 children from Norwood Primary Choir visited the home and began singing carols in German and using British sign language.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for residents to rekindle some childhood memories and reminisce about Christmas past.

Resident Maz Watson, aged 84, said: “Their singing was amazing. It took me back to my school days and how full of energy we all were back then. “I met some of the children, and we had a nice chat about their favourite subjects and what they want for Christmas.”

Fellow Resident Phyl Turner, aged 93, said: “What a spectacular afternoon. Fifty children all singing lovely and behaving amazingly. “I loved how they came and chatted with me, asking me different questions.”

The home also hosted students from Eastleigh College, who performed a series of Christmas carols.

Wellbeing Coach Lidia Nikolova Gjorgjieva said: “They were amazing and so wonderful that myself and their representative had a meeting and managed to agree on a few dates in the new year for collaboration that will be beneficial for both generations.”

And the festive fun didn’t stop there.

Alston House residents were thrilled when children from nearby Crescent Primary Choir popped by to perform songs from their Christmas concert. They chatted with all the children after the event.

Christmas treats and cards were exchanged when children from the Crescent Pre-school visited for an afternoon of creating paper Christmas trees.

The group exchanged cards and small, sweet treats.

Resident Liz Whitby, aged 93, said: “Making this tree has reminded me of all the Christmases we had making our own decorations. We did not have much back in the days, you see.”

Resident Alison, aged 83, added: “The little girl on my table was making pizza, not a tree. I just followed her idea, and we made pizza. Children are so full of ideas. At the end, we made a tree, and we were both very proud of ourselves.”
