The adorable pets were brought to the home by Bunny & Co Mobile Petting Zoo which is based in Newton Mearns and visits the Newton care home every three months.
Owner of the petting zoo is Laura Schosloff who has been visiting elderly residents for years, bringing joy to many people. The zoo comprises ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and hens.
Newton Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coach Marianne Fernandez-Faichney said residents were delighted to see the animals.
Marianne said: “It was lovely to see the fabulous response from our residents to this event. Petting an animal is known to reduce stress and anxiety, it increases physical activity and prompts social engagement as it also improves the individual’s emotional state. It was certainly a wonderful day!”
The benefits of pet therapy also include reduced boredom, decreased loneliness and generally providing a more balanced emotional and mental state.
