Edna Harding who lives at Nesbit House Care Home, Badgers Mounts, Sevenoaks, was delighted when she was able to be reunited with her son Jack Harding in the flesh after more than a year of seeing him from a distance due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The recent easing of government restrictions mean residents in care homes can now have two visitors every week inside the home for regular face-to-face visits as well as seeing people in the luxury Family & Friends lounges.
Jack’s visit was extra special because he arrived on his 60th birthday in time to share a glass of bubbly with Edna.
Edna, 93, said: “It was all such a thrill. Although I have been seeing Jack regularly there is nothing like being together in the flesh again.
“It’s wonderful to be close to Jack again. I cannot believe he is 60 already and seeing him on his birthday made my day too!”
Edna, a former shop assistant, has lived at the home since December 2020 and comes from nearby Gillingham, Kent.
Edna spent most of her life in Sidcup and moved to Gillingham in later life.
Jack, a former car mechanic, lives in Badgers Mount and said: “It means a lot to me to be able to spend quality time with mum and just enjoy a good old chat. I am sure as the lockdown restrictions ease further we will be spending even more time together.
“The home made a big fuss of me too on my birthday and I certainly was not expecting such a grand cake!”
Home Manager, Charles Knowles said: “We are delighted that Edna could see Jack again and our staff feel very privileged to be a part of these special occasions.
“I know there will be plenty more things to celebrate for Edna and all our residents.”
